Studio 61 opened its doors in 2008 as an award winning dance studio in South Florida. We offer dance classes in all genres including jazz, tap, ballet, musical theatre, hip hop, pointe, contemporary, ballroom, and acro. Unlike other dance studios we also offer specialty classes such as stretch and strength, breaking and turns and leaps.  These specialty classes are just a small portion of what makes Studio 61 unique.

 

The owner, Gina Francis, is a 4-year veteran and past Captain of the NBA Miami Heat Dance team. She has also coached, judged and performed for NBA China’s Dance Passion and even appeared on a season of MTV Americas Best Dance Crew where she and her crew won 3rd place.  Gina is the winner of several choreography awards at local and national level dance competitions and still periodically works as a guest Choreographer for the Miami Heat Dancers.

 

The instructors at Studio 61 are highly qualified and passionate about teaching the art of dance.  Among the instructors, Studio 61 employs other veteran Miami Heat Dancers, a member of the crew, “Live in Color,” also from MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, a former member of the Miami City Ballet and the former choreographer for the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders.  Having working professionals teaching the future of dance is crucial in order for students to get the best dance education in the competitive dance world and professional dance industry.

 

Studio 61 has a competitive dance company as well which is well recognized statewide. This group of 30 kids competes at local and state competitions and has performed for Walt Disney productions, Universal Studios, Miami Heat, The Florida Marlins and has won numerous awards and scholarships including outstanding choreography, overall high score and title winning solo routines.

 

Due to the high demand for adult classes for professional dancers, Studio 61 also offers intermediate/advanced classes for the training professional dancer.  It is always a challenge to find classes that are not mixed with children in order to get a high level of training and Studio 61 has always offered these classes since day one.  These classes offered in jazz, contemporary and hip hop, are very popular.

 

Our mission statement as a studio is to teach the love of dance in a fun, professional and disciplined environment.  Along with teaching techniques of all genres of dance, we teach life lessons as well.  Responsibility, commitment, time management and healthy living are all a big part of the lessons learned when taking classes at Studio 61.
